In your team, craft THREE one page reports (OPR), one on each of the following topics:

1. Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one area—the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world. 2. Wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The energy in the wind turns two or three propeller-like blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity.

3. Soil degradation is the physical, chemical and biological decline in soil quality. It can be the loss of organic matter, decline in soil fertility, and structural condition, erosion, adverse changes in salinity, acidity or alkalinity, and the effects of toxic chemicals, pollutants or excessive flooding. SECTION B (40 marks)

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is an intergovernmental body of the United Nations responsible for advancing knowledge on human-induced climate change. The recent IPCC Sixth Assessment Report addresses the most up-to-date physical understanding of the climate system and climate change, bringing together the latest advances in climate science, and combining multiple lines of evidence from paleoclimate, observations, process understanding, and global and regional climate simulations.

One third of health facilities do not have what is needed to clean hands where care is provided.

About 800 million people use health facilities with no toilets. One in four health facilities have no water services. The report is extensive, but you can retrieve the summary at:

Write a report to examine any FOUR (4) occupational hazards in the health sector and, in particular, discuss their attribution to climate change. Use a real case so justify each of your points, i.e. a total of FOUR (4) real cases. Your claims must be substantiated with evidence and references.

As in Section A, you can use either Harvard or Numeric referencing, and you can cite from Wikipedia only ONCE. This report should NOT exceed two pages (excluding references) and must be written in at least font size 12 Times Roman. The list of respective references is to be placed immediately after this section. Be sure to cite your references within the report to make your report credible. There is no need to cite your study guides or lecture notes.

Use data—such as the percentage of China’s total power generation that comes from wind energy, or comparisons with other renewable sources, like solar.

To really boost your score, try to link wind power generation to China’s larger sustainability goals and international climate agreements. Are there challenges they face, like land use or technology costs? Mentioning both the opportunities and limitations will give you a more balanced, critical approach.

3. Soil Degradation

For this topic, your strength will lie in clearly defining what soil degradation is and discussing specific examples of it happening around the world or in your chosen location. You could also mention key causes like industrial agriculture, deforestation, and overgrazing. One way to elevate this section is to analyze the long-term impact—how does soil degradation affect food security or ecosystems?

What could improve your score is discussing measures taken to combat soil degradation, like reforestation or better farming practices, and backing this up with facts. Remember, always include real-world data and examples, such as from Australia or China, to ground your points.

Section B: Occupational Hazards in the Health Sector (40 marks)

In this section, you’re asked to examine four occupational hazards and their link to climate change. The key to a high score here is to not just describe the hazards but to connect them directly to climate change and back it up with real-world cases.

For example:

1. Heat stress—how is climate change causing extreme temperatures that lead to health risks for workers in poorly ventilated health facilities? You can use real cases of hospitals in hot climates where staff have been affected.
2. Water shortages—how does the lack of water services in one-quarter of health facilities, as highlighted by the WHO, affect the sanitation and safety of healthcare workers? Find a specific health facility that has struggled with this issue due to climate change.
3. Vector-borne diseases—how are changes in climate increasing the spread of diseases like malaria, and what risk does that pose to health workers? Reference outbreaks that have worsened due to climate changes.
4. Air quality and pollution—with climate change increasing air pollution in many cities, what risks are posed to healthcare workers who are exposed to these environments? Link it to evidence from affected hospitals in areas with high pollution levels.

To really boost your score here, make sure you’re linking each hazard directly to climate change and not just general occupational risks. Always back your points with references and specific cases. You could also discuss the ethical responsibility of health systems to address these risks in the face of climate change, adding depth to your analysis.
