One-Page Report: Performance of an SUSS Student

Using a performance diary, track your performance as an SUSS student, the number of hours slept every night, and the pressures you have at work/school/family over the course of a week. You can also identify other factors that may influence your performance as a student.

Apply your understanding of peak performance and analyse some potential factors that may influence your performance as a student. Design two strategies to help you perform better as a student.

Present your findings in a one-page report. In your report, you should have the following headings:

1) Overview (10 marks): Set the stage and explain what you tracked for one week.

2) Analysis (50 marks): Identify factors that influence your performance as a student, using empirical evidence to support your claims.

3) Recommendations (30 marks): What are two strategies that you can use to improve your performance as a student?

As a one-page report, you are free to be creative and do not need to adhere to APA style, but you should use APA referencing in your write-up and in your reference list. Note that you should be writing in point-form for this assignment.

Additional instructions:

• Please use font size 10 or 12 with the default document margins.

• Your reference list should appear on a separate page, in addition to your one-page report.

• You are free to make this one-page report more visual with the incorporation of colour and graphics, but the assignment must strictly be on ONE page on a Word document.

• Anything that exceeds ONE page will not be marked.

• You do not need to follow APA style/format for this assignment.

• APA referencing must be strictly adhered to in this assignment, i.e., in your report and in your reference list.

References (5 marks)

Note on use of referencing software:

Reference lists created by referencing software have formatting restrictions and your instructor will not be able to insert comments within the list. If you wish to receive feedback on errors in your reference list, prepare this without using any referencing software.

The References lists the full reference of all sources cited or referred to in your assignment. In-text citations also need to be presented accurately in APA format.

Our Writer’s Comment

This assignment is designed to assess students’ understanding of business practices.

To secure an A+ grade, adhere to these guidelines and make sure your work aligns with the grading criteria:

1. Overview (10 marks)

The introduction is your chance to set the stage clearly and concisely. Make sure you provide a brief but clear explanation of what you tracked over the week. For example, mention that you monitored your sleep patterns, study time, work pressures, and any other external factors like stress. This section doesn’t need to be long, but it should frame the context for the rest of your report.

To improve, you could add a bit more detail about your methodology—for instance, how you tracked these elements (e.g., using a diary or a specific app). This will show that you were systematic in your approach, which reflects well on your ability to manage performance monitoring.

2. Analysis (50 marks)

This is the most important section and where you can really make a difference. The key here is to identify and explain the factors that influence your performance as a student. You should aim to go beyond just listing factors like sleep, stress, and workload—try to show how these factors interact. For example, how does a lack of sleep affect your concentration and productivity? If you experience stress at work, does it impact your ability to study effectively?

Make sure to use empirical evidence to back up your claims. For instance, you could refer to research on how sleep deprivation affects cognitive performance or how stress can lower academic productivity. You could say something like: “According to X study, a lack of sleep reduces short-term memory, which may explain why I found it harder to retain information during study sessions.”

For a higher score, go deeper into self-reflection. Think about your personal experiences and analyze why certain factors impacted you more than others. Was it the specific combination of work stress and school deadlines that lowered your focus? Adding these personal insights will make your analysis richer.

3. Recommendations (30 marks)

Here, you need to design two specific strategies that will help you improve your performance as a student. To score higher, make sure these strategies are:

  • Practical: Don’t just say you’ll “sleep more” or “manage stress better.” Instead, suggest strategies like setting a consistent bedtime or using relaxation techniques before bed to improve sleep quality. If work stress is affecting you, propose using a time management tool or setting clearer boundaries between work and study time.
  • Evidence-based: Back up your strategies with research. For example, mention studies that show how creating a structured schedule helps reduce stress or how regular exercise can improve cognitive function.
  • Actionable: Include details on how you’ll implement these strategies. For example, you could say, “I will start using the Pomodoro technique for studying, where I work for 25 minutes followed by a 5-minute break, to improve focus and prevent burnout.”

The key is to show you’ve thought through not only what will help but also how you’ll put it into practice.

References (5 marks)

APA referencing is essential. Make sure your in-text citations are accurate, and that your reference list is properly formatted. Double-check that you’ve included all the necessary information for each source (author, year, title, journal, etc.).

To improve, ensure you use a variety of sources—not just textbooks, but also journal articles, research studies, or reputable websites. This shows you’ve done thorough research and applied it well.

Presentation

The visual element can really elevate your report. While content is key, making your report visually appealing with charts, colors, or icons can help communicate your points more effectively. Just make sure not to overdo it—keep it clean and professional.

Final Tips:

  • Keep it concise: With only one page, make every word count. Write in bullet points where necessary to keep the information clear and easy to follow.
  • Balance between personal reflection and research: You want to show that you’ve understood the course content and can apply it to your real-life experiences.
  • Link everything back to performance psychology: The more you can relate your findings and strategies to psychological theories and research, the stronger your report will be.
