PP540: Play Early Childhood

Requirements:

Part 1: Play Manifesto 500w Jose

  • First, read up on what a manifesto is. You should be able to get a good idea from Google –  look for samples, read what it is supposed to contain. Before you start, post in the GC what is your understanding of a manifesto.
  • This is the first part of a series of tasks. If you get this wrong, the rest of the assignment is affected.
  • The manifesto for play won’t have subheadings. But these are the expected components:
      • Your definition of play
      • The principles of your Manifesto
      • An approach to play that underpins your manifesto
      • Rationale behind this approach to play that responds to the Early Years Foundation Stage 2023 . I expect that you cite this document in your manifesto
      • The manifesto should reflect debates, theories, and policy around play and the early years curriculum
      • The manifesto should show the valuing of play

Values Associated with the Role of Play 300w

  • Discuss here the values associated with the role of play in EY practice, as discussed in literature
  • Apply this to yourself / your own practice: what are the values you associate with the role of play

Values Underpinning Early Years Provision and Practice 200w

  • Discuss here your values in relation to young children, families, and early years practice
  • Make sure to support with citations
  1. Choose one of the quotations (let me know your choice)
  2. In response to the quotation that you chose, you must write a rationale for the role of play in the early years curriculum.

Remember:

  1. You must read the article /chapter that the quote was taken from.
  2. You must refer to the Early Years Framework (I have placed a copy of it in the dropbox, 2023 version) and must cite it
  3. You must align what you have written with what Jose has written already for Task 1 and 2, as these three assignments will be submitted as a whole. For instance, if he has said that his approach to play is an incorporation of play into learning experiences, then your rationale must flow along with this. In fact I think you must use his manifesto / reflection to help you make your choice of quotation (i.e. quote B or C)

I expect this to be quite complex. Use this outline loosely.

Our Writer’s Comment

This assignment is designed to assess students’ understanding of business practices.

To secure an A+ grade, adhere to these guidelines and make sure your work aligns with the grading criteria:

Part 1: Play Manifesto

1. Understand What a Manifesto Is

Before you even start writing, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of what a manifesto is. Think of it as a public declaration of your beliefs, principles, and intentions. In this case, you’re creating a manifesto that outlines your perspective on the importance of play in early childhood education.

  • Tip: Take some time to read several examples of manifestos online to get a feel for the tone and structure. This will help you write something that’s both impactful and aligned with the expectations of the assignment.

2. Clearly Define Play

Your definition of play should be clear, concise, and reflective of current debates and theories. Don’t just give a dictionary definition—think about what play means in the context of early childhood education and why it’s valuable.

  • Tip: Ground your definition in research or theories that you’ve studied in the course. This will give your manifesto a strong academic foundation.

3. Outline Your Principles

The principles of your manifesto should reflect your core beliefs about play. What are the guiding ideas that shape your approach to play in early childhood settings? Make sure these principles are well thought out and clearly articulated.

  • Tip: Link your principles to relevant theories or policies, such as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2023. Citing this document is important, so make sure your principles align with its guidelines.

4. Rationale for Your Approach

When discussing your approach to play, explain why you believe this approach is effective. How does it respond to the needs of young children as outlined in the EYFS? Your rationale should be grounded in both theory and practice.

  • Tip: Use the EYFS document to support your rationale. Show how your approach not only aligns with but also enhances the standards and expectations set out in this framework.

5. Reflect Debates, Theories, and Policies

Your manifesto should show that you’re aware of the broader debates, theories, and policies surrounding play in early childhood education. This is where you can demonstrate your understanding of the course material.

  • Tip: Make sure you mention key theorists or researchers in the field of play and early childhood education. This shows that your ideas are well-informed and connected to existing scholarship.

Values Associated with the Role of Play (300 words)

1. Discuss Values in EY Practice

In this section, discuss the values that are commonly associated with the role of play in early years (EY) practice. These might include things like fostering creativity, promoting social skills, or supporting cognitive development.

  • Tip: Support your discussion with citations from relevant literature. This will show that your ideas are backed by research and best practices.

2. Apply to Your Own Practice

After discussing the general values, reflect on how these values apply to your own practice. What are the values you prioritize when incorporating play into your teaching? Be specific about how you implement these values in your day-to-day work.

  • Tip: Make this section personal and reflective. It’s an opportunity to show how your own experiences align with or diverge from established practices.

Values Underpinning Early Years Provision and Practice (200 words)

1. Discuss Your Values

Here, you need to discuss your values in relation to young children, families, and early years practice. Consider how your values shape your interactions with children and families, and how they influence your approach to teaching and learning.

  • Tip: Again, use citations to support your discussion. Reference relevant theories or frameworks that align with your values.

2. Align with the Chosen Quotation

Once you’ve chosen a quotation to respond to, make sure your rationale for the role of play aligns with both the quote and what Jose has written in his manifesto. This is where you need to be careful to ensure consistency across the different parts of the assignment.

  • Tip: Read the article or chapter from which the quote is taken to fully understand its context. This will help you craft a more informed and cohesive response.

General Tips for Improvement

1. Ensure Cohesion

Your manifesto, values discussion, and response to the quotation all need to work together as a cohesive whole. Make sure that there’s a clear, logical flow between the sections, and that your ideas are consistent throughout.

2. Reflect on Feedback

Think about the feedback you received on your 77% score. Were there areas where your ideas weren’t fully developed or where your arguments needed more support? Address these areas directly in your next submission.

3. Be Clear and Concise

Since you’re working with word limits, make sure every sentence counts. Be clear and concise, avoiding any unnecessary jargon or filler. This will help ensure that your ideas are communicated effectively.

4. Proofread

Finally, take the time to proofread your work before submitting it. Look for any grammatical errors or awkward phrasing that could detract from the clarity of your ideas.

By focusing on these areas, you’ll be well on your way to improving your score.

Remember, the key is to be thoughtful, reflective, and well-supported in your arguments.

Good luck—you’ve got this!
