Module / Subject / School:

NURS5041: Leadership for the Clinical Context

Curtin University

Requirements:

• Form a group of 4 – 5 people (the group sign-up available on the blackboard site).

• Using the Case study provided, the group will develop a 15-slide evidence-based presentation that will be recorded and submitted to TURNITIN.

• You will have 20 minutes for your presentation. Your presentation must include the following:

• A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of UHS.

• Introduction to the issue related to clinical practice that requires attention.

• A discussion of the issue related to clinical practice that requires attention with reference to the Australian National Quality and Safety Standards.

• Clinical indicators and areas identified for improvement to address the issue related to clinical practice that requires attention.

• The use of a model/framework of how a change in practices can be managed and lead based strengths and opportunities identified in the SWOT analysis.

• A discussion of the actual and potential challenges that need to be addressed to achieve a positive outcome based on the weaknesses and threats of the SWOT analysis.

• References: APA (7th ed.) must be included in-text and in a final slide (the reference slide does not count towards the slide limit).

Formatting and presentation

• Dot points are allowed in this assessment; however, your dot points need to be self-explanatory.

• Words, picture, and/or diagrams presented on the slides must be self-explanatory (i.e., enough information so that your audience can ascertain what you intend and mean by your words),

concise, in point form (i.e., not just an essay on PowerPoint slides), and correctly referenced if you have taken the information from another source – this includes any images you include.

• Your main points need to be supported by relevant and accurate information (i.e., credible examples, evidence, references, and sources) and flow in a logical order. It is better to direct your energy into the content of the slides rather than spending hours and hours on making the slides look pretty.

• You can make notes in the “note” section of the slide, however this is not marked.

• The title and references are not counted towards the 15-slide presentation. Everything else is included.

• Do not include an assessment cover sheet, the assignment guide, verbatim case study information, plagiarism checklist, a table of contents, or the marking rubric. These pages adversely influence the Turnitin report.

• You do need to have a title slide with the name of your presentation and its authors.

• The minimum of references for this assessment is 10 peer-reviewed journal published articles.

The module/lecture slides are not acceptable as references for this assessment. You do not need to reference the case study information.

• Slide font/text must be of sufficient size to be a readable font.

Our Writer’s Comment

This assignment is designed to assess students’ understanding of business practices.

To secure an A+ grade, adhere to these guidelines and make sure your work aligns with the grading criteria:

Group Formation and Collaboration

1. Work as a Cohesive Team

Since this is a group assignment, collaboration is key. Make sure that everyone in your group is on the same page from the start. Divide the tasks based on each member’s strengths and ensure that everyone contributes equally. Regular meetings and clear communication can help keep the project on track.

  • Tip: Use collaborative tools like Google Slides and shared documents to work together in real-time. This ensures that everyone can see updates and contribute effectively.

SWOT Analysis of UHS

2. Be Thorough and Relevant

When conducting the SWOT analysis, make sure you thoroughly assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of UHS. Focus on how these factors relate specifically to clinical practice and leadership within the healthcare context.

  • Tip: Back up your points with evidence. For example, if you identify a strength, provide data or examples from the case study or relevant literature that support this claim.

Introduction and Discussion of the Issue

3. Clearly Define the Issue

Start by introducing the clinical practice issue that requires attention. Explain why this issue is significant and how it impacts patient care or clinical outcomes. Make sure this introduction is clear and concise so that your audience understands the importance of addressing the issue.

  • Tip: Tie the issue to the Australian National Quality and Safety Standards to give it context and relevance. This shows that you’re aligning your analysis with national standards, which is important in a clinical setting.

Clinical Indicators and Areas for Improvement

4. Identify Specific Indicators

When discussing clinical indicators, be specific. Identify the key indicators that are most relevant to the issue at hand. Explain why these indicators are important and how they can be used to measure improvements.

  • Tip: Use data or case studies to illustrate how these indicators have been used effectively in similar contexts. This adds credibility to your argument and shows that you’ve done your research.

Change Management Model/Framework

5. Choose an Appropriate Model

Select a change management model or framework that aligns well with the strengths and opportunities identified in your SWOT analysis. Clearly explain how this model can be used to manage and lead the change required to address the clinical issue.

  • Tip: Provide examples of how the model has been successfully applied in other healthcare settings. This demonstrates that your approach is both practical and evidence-based.

Challenges and Solutions

6. Address Challenges Head-On

Discuss the actual and potential challenges that could arise based on the weaknesses and threats identified in your SWOT analysis. Be realistic about these challenges, and propose feasible solutions for overcoming them.

  • Tip: Use examples from the literature to show how similar challenges have been addressed in other healthcare contexts. This makes your recommendations more convincing and grounded in reality.

Formatting and Presentation

7. Keep Slides Clean and Focused

While the content of your slides is crucial, don’t overlook the importance of clear and effective presentation. Your slides should be clean, focused, and easy to read. Avoid cluttering slides with too much text—stick to key points that you can elaborate on during the presentation.

  • Tip: Use visuals like diagrams, charts, or images to support your points. Visual aids can make complex information more digestible and engaging for your audience.

8. Practice Your Delivery

Since this is a recorded presentation, practice is essential. Make sure that your delivery is confident, clear, and engaging. Each group member should know their part well, and the transitions between speakers should be smooth.

  • Tip: Record a practice session and review it as a group. This can help you identify any areas that need improvement, whether in content, timing, or delivery.

Referencing and APA Format

9. Use High-Quality References

Ensure that you use a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed journal articles as references. Avoid relying on lecture slides or non-academic sources. High-quality references add credibility to your presentation and show that your work is grounded in solid research.

  • Tip: Double-check that all your references are in APA format, both in-text and in the reference slide. Correct formatting can make a significant difference in your final grade.

General Tips for Improvement

1. Reflect on Feedback

Think about the feedback you received on your 70% score. Were there areas where your analysis was too superficial, or where your recommendations lacked support? Address these areas directly in your next submission.

2. Proofread and Edit

Before submitting, take the time to proofread your slides and script. Look for any errors or unclear points that could be improved. A polished presentation not only looks professional but also helps ensure that your message is communicated effectively.

By focusing on these areas, you can improve the quality of your analysis, the effectiveness of your presentation, and ultimately your score.

Good luck—you’ve got this!
