Literature Review: You are required to develop an outline for a literature review based on your topic. Search for relevant references that support your chosen subject area.

Requirements:

You are required to develop an outline for a literature review based on your topic. Search for relevant references that support your chosen subject area. You will need to source and cite at least fifteen references to complete this outline; your literature should only include scholarly evidence, such as peer-reviewed journal articles, books, industry reports, or conference proceedings.

After reviewing the literature, provide a structured outline for your literature review using the suggested formats in the lecture and workshop sessions. Your outline should consist of a series of meaningful headings and a number of bullet points beneath each, depicting the main logic of the argument.

The outline is very concise and only serves as a path to form the flow of logic with associated references, so it does not need to be written in full sentences and it only needs to convey the idea with the least number of words. The outline serves as the initial step before writing the full literature review to form its logical structure, finalise the flow of the arguments, and check the coherence of the literature review. Space has been provided for FIVE sections (headings) that represent a five-paragraph literature review. Provide short in-text references for all the facts that support your core logic within the bullet points, e.g. (Smith & Zhang 2019).

Guidelines for each section:

Introduction: usually provides definitions of your topic/concepts/appropriate context for reviewing the literature; establishes your reasons for reviewing the literature; states the scope of the review – i.e. what is included and what is not included.

Main body: generally three sections. Each section organizes the literature according to essential themes. These can be a group of arguments/ideas. Each section provides insight into the relationship between your research topic and the wider subject area e.g. between gender diversity in construction and gender diversity in general, It moves from a wider view of the literature being reviewed, to the specific focus of your research.

Conclusion: provides a summary of the important aspects of the existing body of literature. Evaluates the current state of the literature reviewed. Identifies significant flaws or gaps in existing knowledge (Outlines areas for knowledge gaps with references to the main body/themes). Links your research to the specific gap/potential contribution of your research to fill the gap.

You may revise the research question you started with after writing the last section of the conclusion

Knowledge gap & contribution.  If so, please include the revised research question.

Our Writer’s Comment

This assignment is designed to assess students’ understanding of business practices.

To secure an A+ grade, adhere to these guidelines and make sure your work aligns with the grading criteria:

1. Start with a Clear Introduction

In the introduction section, your goal is to set the stage for the literature review. Begin by clearly defining your topic and providing any necessary context. This section should explain why you’re reviewing the literature on this topic—what makes it important or relevant? Also, outline the scope of your review. For example, if you’re focusing on a specific aspect of a broader topic, make sure to clarify what you’re including and what you’re leaving out. Since this section is foundational, clarity and precision are key.

2. Organize the Main Body Thoughtfully

The main body is where you’ll organize the literature into themes. Aim to have three well-defined sections, each focusing on a different theme or argument related to your topic. Start broad and gradually narrow your focus to how each theme ties into your specific research question. Make sure that the bullet points under each heading clearly depict the flow of logic and how different pieces of literature connect to support your argument. Don’t forget to include short in-text references for each bullet point—this shows you’ve done your research and know how to support your ideas with evidence.

3. Conclude with Impact

The conclusion is your chance to tie everything together. Summarize the key points from the main body and evaluate the current state of the literature. Identify any significant gaps in knowledge or flaws in existing studies, and explain how your research could fill these gaps. This section should clearly link back to your research question, showing how your work will contribute to the field. If you’ve revised your research question based on your literature review, make sure to include the revised version here.

4. Precision and Clarity

Since the outline is meant to be concise, focus on making each bullet point as clear and informative as possible without being overly wordy. This is a delicate balance—you want to convey enough information to show the flow of your argument, but you also need to keep it brief. Avoid full sentences where possible, and make sure each point logically follows the one before it.

5. Use Scholarly References

Make sure all your references are scholarly sources like peer-reviewed journal articles, books, industry reports, or conference proceedings. The quality of your sources is crucial—relying on credible, scholarly evidence will make your argument much stronger. Ensure that you have at least fifteen references and that they are correctly cited in your outline.

6. Reflect on Feedback

Consider any feedback you received on your 79% score. Were there areas where your outline was unclear, or where the flow of logic could have been stronger? Addressing these areas in your next submission can help boost your score.

7. Maintain Logical Flow

Your outline should serve as a clear path for your full literature review. Make sure the flow of logic is easy to follow from the introduction through the main body and into the conclusion. Each section should build on the previous one, leading the reader through your argument in a coherent way.

8. Proofread for Accuracy

Before submitting, take a moment to review your outline for any errors or inconsistencies. Make sure your in-text citations are correct and that your outline is free of grammatical errors. Even small mistakes can detract from the overall quality of your work.

By focusing on these areas, you’ll be well on your way to creating a strong, coherent outline that serves as a solid foundation for your literature review.

Keep your writing clear, your logic sound, and your references strong, and you’ll be set to achieve a higher score.

Good luck—you’ve got this!
