What we score:
85%
Requirements:Â
This Assessment 1 requires you to write an integrated case study report that follows a structured template. It has three focus areas, which are loosely based on a patient case scenario.
Focus Area One focuses on the definition of type 2 diabetes mellitus, description of its pathophysiology, and the relation of Question 1 and Question 2 to the case study.
Focus Area Two asks for you to describe the typical manifestation of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and then to outline the clinical assessment and diagnosis of the patient. Then, to once again relate Question 4 and 5 to the patient’s case study.
Focus Area Three then asks for you to outline recommended evidence-based management strategies, then discuss one potential complication.
Our Writer’s CommentÂ
This assessment is designed to evaluate a student’s ability to connect biomedical knowledge with clinical reasoning, rather than treat each focus area as a standalone textbook summary. Strong submissions demonstrate a clear, logical progression. From defining type 2 diabetes mellitus, to explaining its underlying mechanisms, and finally applying this understanding meaningfully to Matt’s case.
A common weakness is compartmentalisation. Weaker answers describe aetiology, pathophysiology, symptoms, and management accurately, but fail to integrate them when relating back to the case study. Higher-scoring submissions consistently link theory to Matt’s presentation, showing how risk factors contribute to disease development, how pathophysiology explains his symptoms, and why specific management strategies are clinically appropriate for him.
Another frequent issue is superficial discussion of complications. Stronger work selects one complication carefully and explains why Matt may be at risk, using pathophysiological reasoning rather than generic descriptions.Â
General Tips to Improve Your Score
Maintain a clear clinical narrative
Show how definition, mechanisms, symptoms, and management logically connect.
Integrate the case study throughout
Relate each focus area back to Matt, not just in the dedicated “relationship” sections.
Explain mechanisms, not just outcomes
Especially in pathophysiology and complications, focus on how processes occur.
Use evidence-based language in management
Distinguish clearly between pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies.
Write with nursing relevance in mind
Demonstrate clinical understanding appropriate to nursing practice, not purely medical theory.
