Our Writer’s Comment
Start by carefully identifying the major strategic business units (SBUs) in the company. Make sure you understand the role each SBU plays within the broader corporate structure during the period described in the case study. Be precise and clear in describing these units—this will set a solid foundation for the rest of your report.
For part B, when discussing the strategies adopted by the company, choose one SBU to focus on. Describe its strategies in detail, but don’t forget to also cover the corporation’s overall strategy. Use specific examples from the case study to support your analysis. This will show that you’re not just summarizing but truly understanding and interpreting the company’s strategic moves.
In part C, make good use of relevant models, theories, and frameworks to analyze whether these strategies were appropriate. This might include tools like SWOT analysis, Porter’s Five Forces, or the BCG matrix. Explain why these strategies were or weren’t effective, drawing on the theory to back up your arguments. This critical evaluation is where you can really demonstrate your analytical skills.
Finally, for the future strategy recommendations, base your suggestions on your earlier analysis. Consider the company’s current position and the challenges it might face in the next five years or more. Make sure your recommendations are realistic, actionable, and well-supported by the analysis you’ve already done.
