ESG503: Change Management and Corporate Sustainability Transformation
Singapore University of Social Sciences
Requirements
An investment company in Singapore engages you to prepare a report on change management at City Developments Limited (CDL), a well-known real estate company in Singapore.
You need to do research on CDL. You can refer to its website (https://www.cdl.com.sg/), its annual and sustainability reports (https://ir.cdl.com.sg/annual-reports-agm/annual-reports, https://cdlsustainability.com/), relevant articles, and other reliable sources.
Your report should specifically address all the following questions:
Question 1a (25 marks)
Identify and discuss one (1) major change intervention that CDL has adopted to achieve SDG13 Climate Action. Critically evaluate the benefits of change management regarding CDL’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) performance. Provide relevant examples.
Question 1b (25 marks)
What role does the organisation’s vision play in the change process? Does CDL’s current vision facilitate the change intervention mentioned in Question 1a? Explain. Assess how CDL’s organisational culture affects the implementation of the change intervention. Provide relevant examples.
Question 1c
Identify one (1) key internal change agent at CDL. Appraise the role and competencies of this change agent in the organisation’s change process. How has he/she managed resistance from employees? Provide relevant examples.
Question 1d
Design a new sustainability intervention, including the adoption of AI (artificial intelligence), for CDL which can address social sustainability (e.g., diversity, inclusion, job insecurity, digital inequality, fair wages, working conditions, etc.). Explain the new sustainability intervention and recommend one (1) appropriate change model. Demonstrate how CDL can apply this model to achieve social sustainability. Ensure your recommendation is grounded in theories and concepts covered in this course. Use relevant examples to justify your choice and explain why this model is particularly suitable in CDL’s context.

Our Writer’s Comment
This assessment is not about summarising CDL’s website or sustainability report. Marks are awarded for critically linking change management theory to ESG interventions and organisational practice.
Common challenges we see include:
- Superficial analysis of interventions. Students describe initiatives without critically evaluating benefits or linking them to ESG performance.
- Weak connection to vision and culture. The role of organisational culture and vision is often mentioned but not applied to change outcomes.
- Limited insight into change agents. The competencies and strategies for managing resistance are not clearly articulated.
- Innovation ideas lack grounding. Proposed AI-based social sustainability interventions are sometimes unrealistic or disconnected from change models.
High-scoring reports integrate theory, practical examples, and critical assessment.
How to Improve Your Submission
- Critically evaluate interventions. Show how the SDG13 initiative improves ESG outcomes, using concrete examples.
- Connect vision and culture to change. Demonstrate how CDL’s vision facilitates the intervention and how culture supports or hinders implementation.
- Analyse change agents. Identify competencies, influence, and strategies for overcoming resistance.
- Ground new interventions in theory. Proposed AI-based social sustainability initiatives must align with a suitable change model and be feasible in CDL’s organisational context.
- Use real examples. Reference CDL’s sustainability practices, annual reports, or industry cases to strengthen arguments.
Strong submissions demonstrate research depth, critical insight, and theory-practice integration.
