AS1 -Reflective Account

The reflection will allow the student to demonstrate an understanding of their role in the delivery of patient centred care within the inter-professional team, discussing how their professional values and their expanding theoretical knowledge has influenced their practice in clinical situations and developed their professional practice, identifying areas of self-development and exploring their strengths and weakness.

The Student will consider the following:

  • How since beginning the Level 4 programme, they have developed their knowledge through their learning, taking an aspect of their learning from any module (or more than one) and identify a situation whereby they have put into practice their learning to positively influence care, or develop professional relationships with patients or peers or to recognise the need for changes in line with evidence based practice within their clinical areas. 
  • The student will provide a detailed analysis of this using contemporary evidence and research to support their reflection. 
  • They will also consider opportunities for further development based on their reflection.  

Reflection title:

How has the development of your professional self, enabled you to enhance the care you provide as part of the inter-professional team?

The reflection will be 2000 words and follow the Gibbs model of reflective writing mapped to the identified learning outcomes b, c & e.

PS1 – 15 minute PowerPoint presentation

The 15 minute PowerPoint presentation will provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate how evidence based practice determines the assessment and management of a patients care in their clinical area.

  • The student will identify assessments used in their area, explain why a particular assessment was used for an identified patient, find research to support the use of the assessment and consider possible alternatives. 
  • They will discuss the decision making and care planning processes. Who was involved? Why? How is this communicated? What involvement did the patient have in this?  
  • Finally, they will identify at least two leadership styles required to work effectively within an inter-professional team, considering how these styles are demonstrated within their own teams and demonstrating their understanding of their role within the team. 

The presentation is based on the Learning outcomes a & d.

Conclusion and Action Plan:

The conclusion should summarize what you learned and how it has changed your practice. The action plan is where you outline how you will continue to develop your skills. For example, if you realized the importance of evidence-based practice, maybe you could commit to staying up-to-date on clinical guidelines or attending workshops.

The overall reflection needs to be structured and supported by evidence. Linking your self-reflection to actual research not only makes your account stronger but also shows you’re thinking critically about your development.

2. PowerPoint Presentation (15 Minutes)

The presentation should focus on evidence-based practice in your clinical area, so start by identifying a specific assessment you’ve used with patients. Make sure to explain why this assessment was appropriate for the patient’s situation. Use research studies to support the assessment method you chose.
