  1. Students are required to write on the case study of the client and/or family that was interviewed and presented for the CMAL ICA Group Presentation.
  2. This individual assignment carries a weightage of 50%.
  3. During the ICA Group Presentation, subgroups identified and presented four (4) actual and two (2) potential problems.

Step 2: Analyze the Four Actual Problems (600-700 words)

In this section, you’ll want to provide a detailed analysis of the four actual problems you presented as a group. Be specific about what the problems are and how they affect the client and/or family.

For each problem:

  1. Describe the problem: Be clear about what the issue is. For example, if the client struggles with financial instability, explain how this affects other aspects of their life (e.g., access to healthcare, housing).
  2. Evaluate the impact: Discuss how this problem affects the client’s or family’s overall well-being. You can bring in theoretical frameworks or models from your course to show how these issues fit into broader categories like social, psychological, or physical well-being.
  3. Provide evidence: Use evidence from your interview, the presentation, or related academic literature to support your analysis.

Step 3: Discuss the Two Potential Problems (300-400 words)

Now, shift to the two potential problems that your group identified. Potential problems are those that might not have surfaced yet but could arise in the future if the underlying issues aren’t addressed.

For each potential problem:

  1. Describe the problem: Explain what the issue is and why it might develop. For instance, if the client has mild health issues now, a potential problem could be the risk of these escalating due to lack of preventive care.
  2. Examine the warning signs: Identify any early indicators that suggest these potential problems could arise. This shows that you’re thinking critically about how the client’s situation might evolve.
  3. Link to actual problems: Discuss how these potential problems might stem from or be worsened by the actual problems. For example, if financial instability is an actual problem, the potential for homelessness could be a related future issue.

Step 4: Solutions and Recommendations (400-500 words)

After analyzing the problems, it’s time to propose solutions. Focus on practical, evidence-based interventions that address the actual and potential problems. Tailor these recommendations to the client’s situation based on the interview data and your understanding of best practices.

  1. For actual problems: What immediate steps can be taken to alleviate the client’s or family’s issues? You could suggest community resources, therapy, financial support, etc.
  2. For potential problems: What preventive measures can be put in place to stop these issues from becoming real challenges? For example, regular check-ins with a healthcare provider or enrolling the family in a financial literacy program could help.

Step 5: Conclusion (150-200 words)

Wrap up by summarizing the key points of your analysis. Reinforce how the identified actual and potential problems are interconnected and highlight the importance of your proposed solutions. End with a statement about the importance of early intervention to prevent potential problems from escalating.
