DB01 (TOTAL 100 MARKS)
There are 2 components to this assignment weighted evenly at 50:50. The first is an individual component (50 marks) consisting of tasks (a), (b), and (c), one of which is to be completed each week. The second is a group component (50 marks) consisting of task (d) that will require collaborative work throughout weeks 1-3.
The window for discussion is open from Mon 00:00 a.m. to Sunday 11:55 p.m. of each week for tasks (a), (b), and (c). Timely responses to each task will help facilitate contributions by other members in order for the group to do well in the overall collaborative learning and communication scores in task (d).
Individual Component (Total 50 marks)
In this assignment, you are required to discuss a real-life sustainability issue in Southeast Asia that affects Singapore by applying different concepts covered in this course each week. The tasks for each week are broken down into (a), (b), and (c). You will receive an individual score
for your explanation of the sustainability issue, your application of the concepts to the issue, and your recommended solution to the issue. Each post must adhere to the limit of no more than 150 words (excluding in-text citations and references).
Week 1: Task (a) 10 marks
Identify ONE sustainability issue in a Southeast Asia country that affects Singapore. Explain the challenges the issue poses and the responses by the country has thus far.
Guiding points:
a. Does this current issue affect the future needs of Singapore negatively? How is this sustainability issue related to climate change?
b. Choose one of these ASEAN countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, or Vietnam
c. How does this sustainability issue create challenges that affect Singapore? So far, how has this country responded to its own sustainability issue within its country and/or in Southeast Asia?
Week 2: Task (b) 20 marks
Choose another DB memberās Task (a) sustainability issue. Make sure the topic you respond to in this task is different from your own topic in Task (a). Southeast Asia as a region could respond to this sustainability issue in Task (a) collectively. Identify and briefly describe the cultural, social, political and/or economic factors of the region that affect their collective responses.
Guiding points:
a. How do these factors in Southeast Asia as a group affect their responses on this sustainability issue?
b. Make sure you are clear about with the definitions and meanings of these four factors: cultural, social,
political and economic
Week 3: Task (c) 20 marks
Choose another DB memberās Task (a) sustainability issue. Make sure the topic you respond to in this task is different from your own topic in Task (a) or the issue you responded to for Task (b).
In this task, you are required to use Singapore Green Plan 2030 and/or civil society initiatives to illustrate how Singapore has responded to the issue identified. You should also outline the 3-pillars of sustainability and/or the UN SDGs where Singapore Green Plan 2030 and/or
civil society initiatives are aligned.
Guiding points:
a. Consider how the 3-pillars of sustainability and the UN SDGs have aligned with the Singapore Green Plan and civil society initiatives
b. Support your arguments with examples, wherever appropriate.
Group Component (50 marks)
As a group, you must demonstrate that there are intelligent exchanges that promote collaborative learning. This is achieved by showing that each of you are able to articulate, explain and discuss your ideas with other group members, raise concerns and questions, clarify doubts, and collaborate with and persuade others through rational arguments over the duration of this course.
Your task is to improve the overall quality of the discussion of your DB group over 3 weeks. There is no limit as to the number of posts you can add to improve the quality of discussion. There is also no limit as to the number of discussion threads you can respond to. Each post must be no more than 50 words. You will be awarded ā0ā if you do not fulfil task (d), and the overall quality of discussion will determine the final score for those who value-added to the discussion.
Weeks 1- 3: Task (d) 50 marks
Comment on and appraise other DB membersā posts on tasks (a) to (c).
You MUST USE the concepts covered in this course (e.g., land ethics and tragedy of the commons) to help you appraise the conceptualisation of the issue or solutions related to sustainability.

Weeks 1-3: Task (d) 50 marks Collaboratively engage in intelligent exchanges with other group members to promote collaborative learning. Comment on and appraise other DB members’ posts on tasks (a) to (c). Use the concepts covered in the course, such as land ethics and tragedy of the commons, to evaluate the conceptualization of the issues or proposed solutions related to sustainability. Look for these concepts in the headings and subheadings of the Study Guide and supplement your appraisal with concrete examples.
