Understanding the Assignment

This position paper is your opportunity to really dive deep into a specific project or initiative in Singapore that’s focused on environmental sustainability. You’re expected to not just describe what the project is, but also to analyze its impact and think critically about the challenges it faces. It’s all about showing a comprehensive understanding of the topic and making connections to the broader concepts you’ve learned in the course.

Identifying and Describing the Project (20 marks)

Start by choosing a project or initiative that you find interesting and that has a clear connection to environmental sustainability. Make sure you describe its development over the last decade—what sparked the initiative, who’s behind it, and who benefits from it. Talk about its main goals and the progress it’s made so far. The more detailed and specific you can be, the better. This is where you set the stage for your analysis, so lay a strong foundation.

Linking to Environmental Justice (20 marks)

Environmental justice is a crucial concept, and here’s your chance to show how your chosen project ties into it. Think about how the initiative addresses inequalities—whether it’s providing access to clean air and water, reducing pollution in disadvantaged areas, or ensuring that vulnerable communities benefit from sustainability efforts. Make sure your analysis is clear and well-supported by evidence. You want to show that you understand not just what the project does, but why it matters in the context of justice.

Discussing Challenges (20 marks)

Every initiative faces hurdles, and identifying these challenges is key to showing a deep understanding of the topic. Think about the practical, social, or economic barriers that might hinder the project’s success. Maybe there are funding issues, public resistance, or logistical challenges. Be honest about the difficulties while also considering how they could be overcome. This section should demonstrate that you’re thinking critically about the real-world application of the project.

Developing Suggestions (20 marks)

This is where you get to be creative. Based on the challenges you’ve identified, come up with thoughtful and innovative suggestions for how the project could better achieve its sustainability goals. Refer back to concepts from your study guide to support your ideas—whether it’s through community engagement, policy changes, or technological innovations. Your suggestions should be practical and grounded in the realities of the project, but also forward-thinking.

Using and Citing Sources (20 marks)

Make sure you’re backing up all your points with solid evidence. Use a mix of sources—scholarly articles, news reports, government documents—and make sure everything is properly cited in APA style. Don’t forget to include in-text citations and a full reference list at the end. The credibility of your paper hinges on the reliability of your sources, so choose them carefully and cite them accurately.

Final Thoughts

You’re already doing well with an 80%, but by deepening your analysis, being clear and creative with your suggestions, and ensuring your sources are top-notch, you can push that score even higher. Approach each section with care, making sure to connect your ideas back to the key concepts from the course.

You’ve got the skills—just keep these tips in mind as you work on your paper, and you’ll be on your way to an even better score!
