Our Writer’s CommentÂ
This assignment is designed to assess students’ understanding of business practices.
To secure an A+ grade, adhere to these guidelines and make sure your work aligns with the grading criteria:
Part 1 – Written (600 words)
1. Clearly Define the Situation and Context
Start by clearly explaining the situation and context you’re focusing on. Make sure to describe the specific leadership role you’ll be taking on in this scenario. The more detailed you are about the context and your role, the easier it will be to demonstrate how your proposed solution fits into this setting.
- Tip: If you’re drawing from a real-life experience, include relevant details that help paint a picture of the situation. This makes your argument more relatable and grounded in reality.
2. Understand Your Audience
Understanding your target audience is crucial. Describe who they are, what motivates them, and what potential challenges or resistance you might face. This will help you tailor your approach to their specific needs and concerns.
- Tip: Think about the audience’s perspective. What are their goals? What might they be hesitant about? Addressing these points in your strategy will make your approach more effective.
3. Propose a Feasible Solution
Your solution should be practical and achievable within the context you’ve described. Make sure it’s something that the audience can realistically implement or accept. The feasibility of your solution is a key part of the assessment, so ensure that your proposal is well thought out.
- Tip: Back up your proposed solution with evidence or examples from similar situations where a similar approach has worked. This adds credibility to your proposal.
4. Apply Influencing and Persuasive Skills
Detail your strategy for influencing and persuading your audience. This is where you showcase your understanding of different influencing techniques and how they can be applied in your specific context. Make sure your strategy is clear and directly related to the audience and situation you described earlier.
- Tip: Use specific techniques such as storytelling, appealing to shared values, or providing clear benefits. Explain how these techniques will help you achieve your intended outcome.
5. Reflect on Your Influencing Skills
Reflecting on your influencing skills is an important part of the assignment. Identify one area where you feel you could improve, and explain why this is important for your development as a leader.
- Tip: Be honest and specific in your reflection. Mention how improving this skill will help you in future leadership roles or similar situations.
Part 2 – Oral Presentation (3-minute speech)
1. Be Clear and Concise
You only have three minutes, so make every second count. Your presentation should be focused, with a clear structure that guides the audience through your argument. Start with a strong opening that grabs attention, then move logically through your points, and end with a compelling conclusion.
- Tip: Practice your speech multiple times to ensure you stay within the time limit while covering all the key points.
2. Demonstrate Influencing Skills
This is your chance to show how you can apply the influencing and persuasive skills you discussed in your written assignment. Use your voice, body language, and visual aids effectively to engage your audience.
- Tip: Make sure you’re confident and clear in your delivery. Eye contact, tone variation, and deliberate gestures can all enhance your persuasiveness.
3. Use Visual Aids Wisely
If you choose to use slides or other visual aids, make sure they complement your speech rather than distract from it. Visuals should be simple, relevant, and directly tied to what you’re saying.
- Tip: Avoid overcrowding slides with text. Instead, use images or keywords that reinforce your message.
4. Be Engaging
Your presentation should not just inform but also engage the audience. Ask rhetorical questions, share a brief story, or use an anecdote to make your point more relatable.
- Tip: Think about what will resonate most with your audience and try to connect with them on an emotional level.
General Tips for Both Parts
1. Reflect on Feedback
Consider the feedback you received on your 79% score. Were there areas where your argument wasn’t as clear, or where your presentation skills could be stronger? Address these areas in your next assignment.
2. Practice Makes Perfect
For the oral presentation, practice is key. The more you rehearse, the more comfortable and confident you’ll be when it comes time to record.
3. Proofread and Revise
Before submitting your written assignment, take the time to proofread. Look for any grammatical errors, unclear sentences, or areas where your argument could be stronger. A polished submission can make a big difference.
By focusing on these areas, you can improve both your written and oral presentation skills, helping you to score higher in your next assignment.
Good luck—you’ve got this!
