MBS688: Acquisition of Human Resources
The purpose of this assignment is to practice preparing and conducting a job analysis interview which is at the heart of all human resource management functions, and is required to produce the job description (aka position description) and job specification (this assessment is connected to assessment 2 and 3).
This assessment has four parts:
- Development of job analysis (JA) interview questions and notes,
- A 3-minute video recording of you conducting a portion of the Job Analysis Interview
- An academic reflection of the JA process following the DIEP strategy (see https://emedia.rmit.edu.au/learninglab/sites/default/files/Writing_academic_reflection_accessible_2015.pdf). You should reflect on both development of the JA interview questions and conducting the JA Interview (500 words)
- A short (max 250 words) feedback from the interviewee.
Assessment 1 requires you to conduct and record a 3-minute portion of a job analysis (JA) interview with a friend or family member who is currently employed. The JA will be used to produce a job description and job specification (Assessment 2).

Our Writer’s Comment
This piece of assignment will require students to spend some time in the preparation stage. This is because in practising conducting a job analysis interview, which by the way is at the heart of all human resource management functions, many students tend to lack preparation which affects their grades. It is important that students to brush up on their learnings in the module, specifically in conducting a job analysis interview, to have a more efficient process in the making of the assessment.
Another thing that students must consider in this type of assessment, is your family member or friend which currently has a job. As soon as possible, you should familiarize yourself with the nature of the work that they do. This will enable you to create a good quality job description as well as job specification for the assessment. You might want to ask them to provide some details that you might need for the whole process to get easier.
Remember that you will need to develop job analysis interview questions and notes on your own, so be sure to use appropriate and relevant to the person you are interviewing. One more good tip to keep in mind is that your video recording must look as professional as possible. This will be noticed by the instructor, so if you want to receive high marks, remember to take this into account. Make sure that you are able to ask all the questions within the 3-minute limit.
